A teen aged 16 was killed when he was struck by lightning during a storm on August 6. It happened in a field near Tataresti village of Cahul district.
Press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Liliana Puscasu has told IPN that the boy was riding a bike home together with his friends with whom he fished. No other details are known.
The people are warned to find a safe shelter during thunderstorms. If one is out in the field, they should not stay under trees and should avoid metallic objects, should not talk on the mobile phone and should disconnect electrical appliances.
At the start of July, a tractor driver was also struck mortally by lightning in a field near Parcani village of Slobozia district. At end-July, a man from Salcuta, Causeni, died hit by lightning when he was taking on the phone.
