The teachers suspected of helping students in the Baccalaureate exam in the Romanian language and literature and other teachers who committed related violations may be discharged, while the students who copied may be obliged to take the exam again next year, Minister of Education Mihail Sheahtitski said in a press briefing, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We call on the teachers and education managers to act correctly as their duty is to educate the young people and help form their characters. The examples given by some of them show they do not belong to the education system and we will have to fire and even sue them,” stated the minister. He also said that decisions will be taken after a meeting with the heads and secretaries of the three Baccalaureate centers housed by the lyceums “Vasile Lupu” in Chisinau, and “Traian” and “Pan Halippa” in Edinet, where serious irregularities were discovered in the last exam, later today. Mihail Sheahtitski said that about 20 students who were caught copying in the exam through social networking sites may be forced to sit the exam again next year. If it’s proven that the students copied, the works will be invalidated and removed. Last week, the Anticorruption Center detained 16 persons, 10 of whom teachers, for giving the students to copy in the Baccalaureate exam through mobile phones and social networking websites. According to the Center, the teachers took by 2,200 lei from every candidate for helping them. A number of 159 Baccalaureate centers were set up all over Moldova for this examination session. Approximately 30,000 students will be taking exams there. The authorities allocated about 5 million lei for organizing and holding the session.
