The MPs of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists said the teachers can remain without salaries for October-November if financial resources are not allocated by amending the budget. They said they made requests for information about the situation in the education system to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance, IPN reports.

“No measure has been taken to cover these costs for 2021 and the necessary sum is not known. We request the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance, the Government of the Republic of Moldova to urgently intervene so as to determine the necessities for covering the financing deficit for 2021. The given sum should be allocated after amending the budget so that no school is closed,” said MP Petru Burduja.

He noted that in 2019, when Maia Sandu held the post of Prime Minister, she did nothing to ensure the financing of schools. “Only in December 2019, when a new Government supported by the Socialists was named, the financial resources for paying salaries to teachers were identified and the general costs of the education system were covered. In 2020, which was very and very difficult owing to the pandemic, the government identified financing for all the costs incurred in the education system,” said Petru Burduja.

His mate Vladimir Odnostalco said the Ministry of Education is exerting pressure on the local authorities so that these close education institutions by the school sub-financing mechanism. In 2014, there was adopted a new Education Code according by which the national education institutions started to be financed depending on the number of students. “If there is a particular number of children, the school receives financing. If there is not, they do not get financing,” stated the MP. “In 2019, when the Government supported by the Socialist parliamentary group was voted in, they found a solution to this problem, but now the Ministry of Education exerts particular pressure on the local authorities so that these close the education institutions by the school sub-financing mechanism”.
