Teachers’ salaries will not be increased earlier than January 1, 2025, contrary to the expectations of education unions that this will happen by the Education Worker’s Day that is marked on October 5. Minister of Education Dan Perciun commented on the trade unionists’ demands, saying that an increase in salaries will be possible once the new budget is approved, IPN reports.

“It is a very correct demand of the unions, which we discussed with them at the meeting we had two weeks ago. We will continue to strive to ensure an increase in teachers’ salaries. Last year we had a 15% increase in the reference value. Other increases will follow starting with January 1, 2025, traditionally with the approval of the new budget,” Dan Perciun told a press conference.

According to the unionists’ statement, despite the salary increases at the beginning of this year, the average salary in education is by over 3,000 lei lower than the average salary in the economy. To equate them, additional allocations of 3 billion lei are needed. The average salary in the economy forecast for this year is 13,700 lei.
