Municipal councilor and president of the Chisinau Education Trade Unions Galina Talai reasserted that at the beginning of the new school year the trade unionists will resort to protests and demand that teachers’ salaries are raised, Info-Prim Neo reports. At a municipal teachers’ conference held in Chisinau on August 21, Galina Talai said that the trade unions are not satisfied with the Government’s justification and with its refusal to increase the pays of the teachers. She called on the teachers attending the conference to support the trade unionists in the efforts. “Ask and you will be given. No Government gives if it is not asked to,” Talai said. Earlier, the authorities said that a pay rise for teachers cannot be discussed at the moment because the liquidation of the consequences of floods is now a top priority. Attending the event, Minister of Education and Youth Larisa Savga said that the talks with the governmental divisions over this subject have been launched earlier this summer. “When the damage caused by floods is assessed and the problem is solved, teachers ‘salaries will be the first item on the agenda,” the minister said. The trade unions submitted their demands concerning teacher pay rises on July 14.
