A primary school teacher from a village of Anenii Noi district was charged with illegal deprivation of freedom and inhuman and degrading treatment, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the criminal case was started following a complaint filed by a local woman, who said that her daughter, who is a third grader, wants to commit suicide because she was humiliated and ill-treated by her teacher. The police established that the girl was maltreated, intimidated and humiliated publicly by her teacher during classes on April 9.

The teacher hit the girl on the face and pulled her hair for the reason that she would have stolen money from her bag. The girl was also locked in the school’s basement for several hours. The investigators determined that similar cases happened earlier too. The psychiatric-psychological examination showed that the minor suffered severe mental disorders.

The Anenii Noi prosecutor’s office informed the district council and the school’s administration so that the teacher is suspended. But no steps followed. The case was sent to the Anenii Noi district court.

The Prosecutor General’s Office so far this year received 394 complaints about use of torture and other forms of ill-treatment.
