Teachers in Chisinau face significant challenges, and one of the most pressing is the shortage of qualified teaching staff, which puts additional strain on the existing teachers, said Margareta Sîrbu, president of the Chisinau Education and Science Union, in an interview published on the website of the National Confederation of Trade Unions.

“Remuneration is also an issue we are very aware of. Salaries must truly reflect the workload and responsibilities of our teachers. In partnership with the authorities, we continue to look for solutions to ensure that each teacher receives a remuneration that ensures a decent living and motivates them to continue contributing to the development of education”, said Margareta Sîrbu.

According to her, excessive bureaucracy is another problem that directly affects teaching. “We are in constant communication with the Ministry of Education and the Municipal Education Directorate to simplify these administrative processes so that teachers can focus on what they do best: educating and schooling future generations”.

“We are very preoccupied about the reputation of teachers in society and the respect they deserve. For this reason, we are actively involved in projects that aim to promote the image of education employees, in close collaboration with the Directorate. Contests such as Teacher of the Year are just two examples of initiatives that we constantly support. Also, we support with the employees in all stages of confirmation of teaching and managerial degrees”, said Sîrbu.

This year, the municipality asked the Ministry to fill 638 novice teacher positions, and 100 have already been registered at the Directorate. “These teachers need continuous support to adapt to the demands of the educational system and to develop their skills. The Union is committed to collaborating with the authorities to ensure optimal working conditions and to provide the novice teachers with the necessary resources to fulfill their educational mission successfully”, said Margareta Sîrbu.
