An educationist of the Alecu Russo university from Balti has been detained by the anti-corruption squad (ECCCC) under suspicion of passive corruption, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the press service of the ECCCC, she would have asked and got 500 euros from a citizen to issue a graduation diploma, although the latter has never been admitted to the university. The anti-corruption squad officers recorded the moment when the teacher got 300 euros as a guarantee, that they caught her in the act as she was taking the rest of the money. The operation unfolded in the teacher's office in the university. The officers also found 13 matriculation cards of students in the same office, as amounts of 200 and 400 lei were in each of the notebooks. According to the ECCCC, the staff member could not explain why the matriculation cards were in her office and whom the money was meant for. The educationist is investigated without being arrested. If found guilty she may pay a fine of 100,000 lei or get jailed from 5 to 10 years. Alecu Russo university's administration has not commented the case. It's the second case of passive corruption traced down by the squad this year in which education employees are involved.
