A number of teachers on October 5, when it is celebrated the Teacher’s Day, staged a flashmob meeting entitled “Teacher, not beggar”, demanding to double the salaries of teaching staff and auxiliary personnel. The teachers said the demands stipulated in a petition that they submitted to the Government a month ago weren’t taken into account by the authorities, IPN reports.
According to Natalia Bzovaya, founder of the Community “Solidary Teachers”, the teachers have been ignored after the campaign “Teachers Deserve” was launched. Pressure is being exerted on teachers and they are criticized and this shows the Government does not need them. “If the current government wants to remain in power, they will definitely have to ultimately solve the teachers’ problem and the moment is now opportunity to do this as the situation will be more serious in two-four years,” stated the teacher.
She also said that it has been a month since the petition was submitted, but the teachers didn’t get feedback from the authorities. At the hour when the meeting was to start, she received a message from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research to the email address of the community, but she didn’t manage to read it yet.
French language teacher Serafim Ginkolov said the government should better plan the funds intended for the education sector. The teachers try to make themselves heard, but they have been ignored until now. A decent salary for a teacher means 8,000-10,000 lei.
The participants said they came to express their dissatisfaction on the Teacher’s Day and to say that education has priority all over the world, not yet in the Republic of Moldova. They asked once again the authorities to take the demands of teachers into consideration, and also the demands of parents as these can no longer finance this sector so that the teachers are not forced to beg.
