A bakery teacher of an auxiliary school was sentenced to 17 years in prison for sexually abusing two underage students in 2009. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the 65-year-old defendant was wanted and avoided trial. In one episode, he was investigated together with a neighbor, but the charges against the latter were dropped following his death in 2018, IPN reports.

According to the indictment, in January 2009, while he was in the classroom of that educational institution, the defendant persuaded a 17-year-old student to stay in the room to take notes. After the other students left, the teacher locked the doors and forced the minor to have sex with him. The defendant threatened the victim with physical assault and with dissemination of information about the sexual abuse.

Three days later, under the pretext of giving extra lessons to the same student, the teacher lured him to the apartment he rented. There, he had again sex with the minor contrary to his will.

The same teacher, in the second half of April 2009, together with the second defendant, who was his apartment neighbor, while in rented accommodations, through the same criminal scheme, sexually abused another 15-year-old student.

About a year later, the victim learned that he had been infected with HIV and another serious venereal disease. He assumed she had been infected by the defendant because he met him years later as part of a HIV support group.

The court sentenced the wanted teacher to 17 years in a closed prison and obliged him to pay 5 million lei in respect of non-pecuniary damages to the injured party.

The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
