Taxes of 1m lei to be collected from Chisinau casinos

The draft decision to adjust the local taxes in the municipality of Chisinau will be available on the municipality’s website in the evening of December 18 at the latest, Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca announced in the December 17 meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials. Before being discussed by the Chisinau Municipal Council, the draft decision will be proposed for public debates. According to the mayor, the new local taxes must bring additional incomes into the municipal budget, but they shouldn’t be exorbitant so that they ‘suffocate’ the economic entities. Dorin Chirtoaca said that they propose increasing the taxes for small and medium-sized companies by 20%. The taxes for entrepreneurs performing activities that promote a healthy lifestyle will remain at the same level, or may be even decreased slightly. As to casinos and gambling halls, the taxes for them may be increased significantly. The mayor will also suggest collecting annual taxes of 1 million lei from casinos and of 25,000 lei for a gaming machine, as against 4,000 lei now. The draft decision is to be adopted by this yearend.
