During a month from August 19, the State Tax Service will carry out a campaign to allow the persons who perform transportation activities to voluntarily comply with the legislation, IPN reports. Vitalie Sorocean, division head at the State Main Tax Inspectorate, said the plan of this campaign was worked out in concert with the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure and the competent subdivisions of the Ministry of the Interior.

“The campaign is aimed at discouraging illegal passenger and freight transportation activities that cause considerable damage to the budget. They seriously affect the road security and represent a danger to the health and lives of the passengers,” he said.

Within the campaign, employees of the local tax inspectorates will carry out inspections near bus and minibus terminals and places from where international passenger routes set off. According to reports, 600-800 passengers are daily transported by illegal routes or without ticket from Chisinau alone. The damage is assessed at 1 million lei.

“We will speak to the people and will explain the situation to them. We will urge them to register voluntarily as legal entities or private individuals for providing passenger or freight transportation services,” said Sorocean.

“Every week during this month, there will be presented the results of this campaign so that everyone knows them, including the carriers that work legally, as the campaign is themed “Tax Service helps honest carriers”. I want to note that the Tax Service will continue the activities aimed at identifying the carriers working illegally, in concert with the competent ministries, after the campaign is over.”
