The head of the training center of the Main State Tax Inspectorate is accused of committing tax evasion at a café that he opened inside the building where he worked. The accusations were made by the Association for the Prevention and Combating of Economic Crime and Corruption, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a news conference, the Association’s leader Andrei Donica presented video recordings made in the café. They show a woman who presents herself as the café’s cook. She admits that she works without cash register and the café is owned y the head of the Tax Inspectorate’s training center. In a period, representatives of the Association went again to the café, but it was already closed.
Andrei Donica said he informed the Main State Tax Inspectorate about this violation committed by an employee of the Inspectorate, but received no answer. The Association for the Prevention and Combating of Economic Crime and Corruption demands that the employee who committed tax evasion should be dismissed. “He trains the tax inspectors how to combat tax evasion, but commits this offense himself. The Inspectorate said that the opening of this center was one of its greatest accomplishments in 2010, but named a thief as its head,” said the Association’s leader.
Andrei Donica said that the Main State Tax Inspectorate collects taxes only from the poor ones. “The large companies escape punishment if they pay ‘tribute’ to the tax inspectors monthly as they are anyway pressurized by the inspectors if they refuse to offer bribe and pay taxes,” he stated.
According to Andrei Donica, the candidates for posts at the Main State Tax Inspectorate should be selected by contest. “The post of tax inspector is now sold as if at an auction. But such positions must be held by capable persons. The Tax Inspectorate must be controlled by the people, not the political class,” said the Association’s leader.
Andrei Donica also said that the employees of the Main State Tax Inspectorate should know that civil society has its eye on them and monitors their actions.
