Premier Vasile Tarlev has urged the relevant government offices to step up efforts in drafting the terms of references (TORs) needed to invite bidders that would wish to invest in remodelling the existent combined heat and power plants (CHPs) and in building new ones. At a meeting of the governmental commission for energy sector development, the Premier was informed that the Moldovan power plants produce today the greatest amount of energy in the last ten years, meaning 41% of the country’s demand for electricity. Vasile Tarlev said that in order to ensure Moldova’s energy security, it is necessary to increase domestic production capacities, which must cover at least 90% of the demand. At the same time, Vasile Tarlev voiced concern over the situation of heat supply in the capital city. He demanded that a task force be set up to assess the situation in detail and come up with solutions. Vasile Mamaliga, Deputy Minister of Industry and Infrastructure, said that the country’s energy system was better prepared for this heating season, thanks to the implementation of a number of investment projects in the field. According to him, all the budgetary institutions are connected to the heating system, are ensured with the necessary quantities of fuel, and the market is ensured with sufficient volumes of coal.
