The negotiations on the contract for leasing out the state-run company Chisinau International Airport aren’t yet over, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar announced. “We don’t have blockages yet, but there appeared clauses that we didn’t see and that we must negotiate,” said the official.

Under a decision approved by the Government in May, the Chisinau International Airport will be leased out for 49 years. The executive hopes to modernize this important company for the economy, namely the launch pad and landing strips, the lighting systems and other vital systems, and to build a multilateral parking garage in the immediate neighbourhood.

Seven companies announced their participation in the contest to lease out the airport, but five companies gave up afterward. The two remaining companies are the Vnukovo Airport in Moscow and the winner of the tender contest Komaks, which administers the Habarovsk airport and with which talks are now carried out. If the negotiations fail, a new contest will be announced, said the Deputy Prime Minister.
