Members and supporters of the Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) and of the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA) demanded again to immediately review the natural gas tariffs so as to reduce these by 30-35%. These picketed the head office of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (NAER), where public debates on the natural gas tariffs were held, IPN reports.

The protesters said the final tariffs for end-users should be reduced by at least 30% and this opinion is shared by a group of independent experts. “The prices should be decreased by 30-35% at least. This should have been done over a year and a half ago. In the period, we paid an extra 1.5 billion lei,” said PPPDA deputy head Inga Grigoriu.

“We do not need electoral alms. The NAER should tell us why the tariffs weren’t decreased on time. They now want to only tame the voters. Why didn’t they consider the tariffs two years ago, but decided to review them now, in an electoral year? We need correct tariffs,” said PAS secretary general Igor Grosu.

The protesters carried placards and chanted such slogans as “NAER, decrease the tariffs!”, ”No to social genocide!”, “Down Plahotniuc’s tariffs!”, “NAER works for PDM!” etc.

NAER director Tudor Copaci went out with dozens of flowers for the women who came to the protest, but the protesters booed him and refused to take the flowers. “We wanted to congratulate the women here on March 8, to make a nice gesture, but they refused to take the tulips. As regards the protesters’ demand, we will soon have a meeting where we will decide how much the natural gas tariffs will be reduced,” stated Tudor Copaci.

After the March 7 meeting, the NAER said the new tariffs will be approved in a new meeting.
