The Swiss financial assistance for Moldova over the next four years will double to €46 million, up from €24 million in 2010-2013. The money will be provided mainly for projects in health protection and water supply, IPN reports.

The Moldovan-Swiss cooperation strategy for 2014-2017 was launched in Chisinau on April 8. Swiss Ambassador to Moldova and Ukraine Christian Schoenenberger said the strategy is a proof of Switzerland’s commitment to support Moldova on a long term.

Santi Vege, head of the CIS States Division of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, said the results achieved in 2010-2013 motivated Switzerland to set more ambitious objectives.

Under the new strategy, the Government of Switzerland will continue to support the reforms in healthcare, centering on the development of the regionalized pediatric emergency assistance services and the youth-friendly health centers created all over the country. The support in two new areas will be extended – prevention of non-transmitted diseases and integration of mental health services into the primary medical assistance.

Decentralized drinking water supply systems and sanitary ecological installations were built in villages in central Moldova with Swiss support. Starting with this year, such projects will be financed all over the country.
