The Head of Parliament of Sweden Per Westerberg is optimistic about Moldova’s success at the Vilnius Summit, where there is to be initialed the Association Agreement, including the Free Trade Agreement, with the EU. The official made the statement after a meeting with Moldovan Speaker Igor Corman, IPN reports.
Per Westerberg said that these agreements will offer Moldova wide possibilities in a number of areas. Sweden will continue to support Moldova in its European integration efforts. The officials discussed the possibility of staging a meeting of the EaP member states in Chisinau next year.
Igor Corman said that Sweden is a leader among the EU member states as regards the volume of assistance provided to Moldova, underlining that it helped to implement 16 projects to the value of over €32 million. The Moldovan Head of Parliament accepted the invitation to pay a visit to Stockholm to discuss measures to strengthen the bilateral relations.
Per Westerberg is in Moldova on a one-day visit. While in Chisinau, he had meetings with Deputy Speaker and head of the Moldova-Sweden Parliamentary Friendship Group Liliana Palihovici, heads of parliamentary groups and Moldovan MPs who take part in the program of assistance provided by the Parliament of Sweden to Moldova’s Parliament to strengthen parliamentary democracy. He will also have separate discussions with President Nicolae Timofti, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, and Foreign Affairs Minister Natalia Gherman.
