Sweden will continue to support Moldova in its European integration efforts. The Swedish and Moldovan authorities will promote a series of programs to strengthen democracy in Moldova. Special attention will be paid to decentralization and development of local public authorities’ capacities. The issues were discussed by Head of Parliament Igor Corman and Swedish Ambassador to Moldova Ingrid Tersman in an official meeting, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the Parliament’s press service, Ingrid Tersman welcomed the cooperation between the legislative and executive powers of Moldova, saying the Swedish authorities are working out a regional strategy for Eastern Europe for 2014-2020. The objectives of this document are to strengthen democracy, justice and sustainable development and to draw the EaP member states closer to the EU.
In the meeting, Igor Corman and Ingrid Tersman discussed the program of the Swedish Speaker Per Westerberg’s visit to Chisinau on September 2, 2013, the legislature’s priorities for the autumn session, Moldova’s European integration prospects at the Vilnius Summit, the projects to modernize the country, respectively the exchange of experience and good practices for strengthening democracy in Moldova.
The officials took stock of the activities of the Swedish Parliament’s assistance program for the Moldovan Parliament that was implemented in 2012 – June 2013.
