A surgeon from Balti was found guilty of negligence when providing medical assistance to an eight-year-old girl. As a result, the girl died. The 72-year-old doctor was put on probation for a two-year period and banned from working in the health sector for a period of three years, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the case happened in June 2013, when the child was taken to the Balti Municipal Children’s Hospital by her parents for an operation to take the adenoids out. The surgeon otolaryngologist performed the operation, but discharged the girl three days later without providing the necessary post-operation medical assistance. In six days after the surgery, the girl was rushed in a serious state to the hospital, where she died without going out of the coma.

The investigation showed that the doctor discharged the girl too early and didn’t provide the necessary post-operation assistance in the required volume. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
