The Moldovan authorities are concerned about the Transnistrian authorities’ decision to relocate the so-called Supreme Soviet from Tiraspol to Bender. The decision is regarded as another step in the dangerous politics of unilateral actions pursued by the Transnistrian leaders, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the Government, the Moldovan authorities consider that the given decision is markedly political in character. “The relocation of ‘central bodies’ of the self-styled Transnistrian regime to the right bank of the Nistru is aimed at unilaterally changing the realities by strengthening the administrative presence in Bender town,” reads the communiqué.
Under the agreement on the peaceful settlement of the armed conflict in Moldova’s Transnistrian region of July 21, 1992, Bender was declared a district with increased security regime. Any unilateral decision that affects the town’s status and political-administrative situation can negatively influence the accords set out in this agreement.
The Moldovan authorities insist on refraining from taking actions that endanger the atmosphere in the conflict settlement process and calls on the OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office and other international partners involved in the 5+2 talks to pay increased attention to the latest negative developments in Bender.
