Supreme Court of Justice president will be entitled to only two successive tenures

The president and vice presidents of the Supreme Court of Justice will not be able to run for more than two consecutive four-year terms in office, as provided in a bill approved by the Government, Info-Prim Neo reports. The bill also says that if the post of Supreme Court of Justice president falls vacant or the term in office expires, the post will be held by the Court’s vice president with the longest length of service on an interim basis. The Supreme Council of Magistrates will be obliged to announce contests for the vacant posts of judge not later than three months before the post becomes vacant so as to avoid long periods when the post is held on an interim basis. Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim said these changes were made following a request from the Constitutional Court, which established that there are omissions in the legislation.
