The Supreme Court of Justice is not able to quash an illegal decision passed by the unrecognized Transnistrian courts of law. This is the answer published on the Court’s official website after several NGOs earlier asked disciplinarily punishing a Supreme Court of Justice judge for recognizing the Transnistrian region as a state, Info-Prim Neo reports. The communiqué says the fact that they try to involve the Court in political debates by disseminating press reports is regrettable. “The magistrates do not have the right to pronounce on political issues. The insinuations about the existence of another position of the Supreme Court of Justice are totally groundless and are based on a material error committed in a response provided by the institution,” reads the communiqué. As to the answer given by the Penal Board judge concerning the refusal to accept an appeal, the Court said that this is a procedural act that should not be politicized, even if the formulation was inappropriate. The decisions pronounced by the unconstitutional Transnistrian courts cannot be verified by the legal courts of Moldova. Last weekend, a number of NGOs informed that Sergiu Furdui, deputy head of the Supreme Court of Justice’s Penal Board, rejected an appeal filed by four persons held in Transnistrian prisons. The judge argued that it is not within the competence of the Court to examine the appeal as they challenged a court decision of another state.
