Supreme Court cuts jail terms of Levinta brothers

Four years and a half after Moldova was convicted by the ECHR in the case of Levinta against Moldova, the reexamination of the case at national level was finished. By the decision of the Supreme Court of Justice, the jail terms of the Levinta brothers was reduced by two months each, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, Vitalie Levinta was sentenced to 15 years and 10 months in jail, while Pavel Levinta to 14 years and 10 months in jail.

The prosecutors accused the Levinta brothers of being accomplices in committing murders and in murder attempts, depriving of liberty, keeping of arms and munitions and membership in criminal organizations in 1998 – 2000.

The decision of the Supreme Court of Justice is irrevocable.
