The Supreme Council of Magistrates has endorsed the justice sector reformation strategy drafted by the Ministry of Justice, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We keep to the schedule. On August 22, the Ministry of Justice will submit the strategy to the Government for examination as well as to the reform council,” Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim said after the Council’s meeting.
Supreme Council of Magistrates chairman Nicolae Timofti voiced hope that the document will not have the fate of the reformation strategy for 2001-2009, as a result of which Moldova was convicted by the European Court of Human Rights in a number of cases.
“I have worked in the judicial system for a long period. In 1990, we started work on the reformation strategy, in accordance with the general principles of the UN and the principles stipulated in the resolutions of the Council of Europe. Everyone formulates proposals, but I have not yet understood what they are talking about,” said Nicolae Timofti. He also said that the reformation procedures are currently not very clear.
On August 17, the reformation strategy will be the main subject for discussion at the final debates that will involve law experts. After it is examined by the Government, the strategy will be sent to Parliament for adoption.
