The Supreme Council of Magistracy demands that Corneliu Gurin should resign from the post of judge of the Constitutional Court (CC). The decision was taken after analyzing the Venice Commission’s Opinion about the judgments passed by the CC during June 7-9, 2019, IPN reports.

The Council also demanded that the acting president of the CC should order an inquiry into the violation of obligations by Corneliu Gurin.

Corneliu Gurin served as prosecutor general of Moldova in April 2013 – March 2016. The Supreme Council of Magistracy proposed him for CC judge in December 2018.

In its Opinion, the Venice Commission said there were no conditions for dissolving Parliament in the Republic of Moldova and the parliamentary majority formed by the PSRM and ACUM acted in accordance with the Constitution when it installed the new Government led by Maia Sandu. The Venice Commission noted the way in which Moldova’s CC calculated when the three-month period during which the new Government could be invested expired and after which circumstances for dissolving Parliament appeared was “unprecedented”.
