About 400 protesters carrying flags of the European Union and Ukraine came together before the Government Building in Kiev to express their support for the European integration course. They are supported by a number of leaders of the opposition, the independent publication URAinform says on its website, quoted by IPN.

According to the same source, buses of the militia blocked entrance to the Government Building in the morning of November 27. There were military men and an ambulance nearby. The security measures were taken after the Ukrainian opposition announced that they will besiege the building.

URAinform said that in the evening of November 26, the organizers of the ‘Euromaidan’ took away the tents and stage put up during the protests. A part of the protesters went home, while the others continue to demonstrate.

Ukraine was to sign the Association Agreement with the EU at the Vilnius Eastern Partnership Summit on November 28-29. On November 21, the Cabinet of Ukraine announced that they decided to suspend the process of preparing for the signature and ordered the resumption of the dialogue with Russia and the other CIS member states. As a result, Ukraine was struck by a wave of mass protests.

According to the national news agency UKRinform, the EU’s offer to sign the Association Agreement remains valid for Ukraine. The foreign ministers of Poland and Germany Radoslaw Sikorski and Guido Westerwelle said only political will on the part of the Ukrainian government is needed. They stated that the peaceful demonstrations in support of the European integration clearly show the Ukrainians’ wish to come closer to the EU.

UKRinform quoted Radio Svoboda as saying that former Premier Iulia Timoshenko Tuesday called on the protesters to join forces and to demonstrate without party flags.
