The pro-European opposition parties consider the Democratic Party’s decision to support a common candidate of the pro-European parties and parties of the right in the mayoral elections in Chisinau municipality are a farce generated by the lack of the own candidate. The PDM said it is a gesture of sincerity and political solidarity between forces that want the country’s European course to be continued. Such statements were made in the program “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

Deputy chairman of the Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) Mihai Popsoi said the decision announced by the PDM is nothing else but a farce. “It is a rerun farce and it is thus not at least original. The Democratic Party does not have a good candidate and an original strategy. They repeat what they did in the presidential elections: they offered their support and tried to embrace the pro-European candidate so as to suffocate this by their toxic embrace,” he stated.

According to Mihai Popsoi, they try to do the same in the early mayoral elections in Chisinau municipality and there is no doubt that this strategy is used to advantage the Socialists’ candidate, as it happened during the presidential elections.

Secretary general of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Kiril Motpan said the PDM got used to imposing its agenda, while the PPPDA thwarted its plans by fielding Andrei Nastase as a candidate for mayoralty. “The Platform Dignity and Truth has its own agenda and program. We have a cooperation agreement with the PAS, which is an emerging party and with which we have a very good relationship,” stated Kirill Motpan.

Spokesman for the Democratic Party Vitalie Gamurari said the decision to support a candidate of the pro-European forces in the local mayoral elections was taken after Andrei Nastase was announced as the PPPDA’s candidate for mayoralty. It is not about the absence of candidates in the PDM and the candidate that the party will support will not be proposed by the Democrats.

The Democratic Party on March 6 announced that it won’t have a candidate in the early local mayoral elections in Chisinau municipality, but is ready to support a common candidate of the pro-European parties and parties of the right.
