Supply and demand on currency market in September

The Moldovan leu in September deprecated by 0.1% on average against the U.S. dollar to 16.6735 USD/MDL, as against 16.6511 USD/MDL in August. According to the values at end-September, the leu depreciated by 2% against U.S. dollar, IPN reports.

The National Bank of Moldova said the degree of covering the net demand of currency from business entities by the net supply of currency of private individuals in September was of 102.4%, in contrast to 113.7% in August.

Against the previous month, the net supply of currency of private individuals in September grew by US$27.4 million (+11.8%), while the net demand of currency from business entities by US$49.5 million (+24.2%).

The central bank intervened by making net purchases of currency in the amount of US$29.6 million on the local interbank market.

The euro continued to account for the largest part of the net supply of currency of private individuals – 83.6%.
