Sunstroke cases on the rise

A case of sunstroke, eight cardio-vascular accidents and seven cases of acute coronary syndrome were registered on Wednesday, May 23, by the doctors of the Emergency Service in Chisinau. According to the coordinating doctor of the Service, Silivia Babara, a young girl aged 16 asked the help of doctors at around midnight, because of unbearable headache, nausea and vomiting. The doctors found that the symptoms had been caused by excessive exposure to the sun. During the summer days, the number of calls received by the Emergency Hospital increased by 15%, especially in what concerns patients with heart diseases. The Ministry of Health warns about the danger of excessive exposure to sunrays and recommends people to respect safety rules in the case of high temperatures. It is necessary to cover the head, to use umbrellas, to wear light clothes, to drink at least 3 litres of water every day. Sunstroke is characterized by mental confusion, muscle cramps, and often nausea or vomiting, headache, respiratory disorders, fever.
