The March 20 eclipse of the sun can be followed in Moldova between 10:55am and 13:11 pm. The phenomenon will be transmitted online on http://observator.utm.md, through the Telescope of the Technical University of Moldova.
Doctor of Physics and Math Aurel Sorocovici, who is specialized in celestial mechanics, has told IPN that Moldova and Romania will see only a partial eclipse. Such an eclipse could be followed in Europe, northern Africa and western Asia, while the total eclipse – in the north of the Atlantic Ocean.
The eclipse of the sun is an occasion when the moon passes between the earth and the sun so that all or part of the sun cannot be seen for a time.
Aurel Sorocovici said it is not recommended following the phenomenon without specially designed protective accessories. The eclipse is a natural event that should not cause panic among the people.
The last large-scale eclipse of the sun in Europe was seen in 1998, while the next one is expected on August 12, 2026.
