Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze AG invests in Moldova

The global supplier of electronic wire harnesses and components for the international automotive industry Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze AG (SEBN), which opened a daughter company in Moldova - SE Bordnetze SRL - will construct a wire harness factory in our country.

SE Bordnetze SRL financial director Igor Corman, in a news conference at IPN, said the SEBN project is one of the most important of those implemented now in Moldova. This will bring important benefits for investors and for the central region of the country.

According to Igor Corman, the decision to extend the operations into Moldova was taken by the administration of SEBN last year. Since December 2015 until now, SE Bordnetze SRL carried out all the necessary studies and prepared the documents needed for opening a factory in Orhei district. In June 2016, it rented a hall that is 2,600 square matters in area and started to mount and assemble modules within a SEBN Romania project there.

Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze AG currently employs more than 31,000 people at 28 locations in 15 countries. SEBN AG is a member of Sumitomo Electric Industries Group, which includes 389 companies in over 40 countries worldwide and employs more than 240,000 people.

SEBN director general Kenichi Urushibata noted that his company started to work with 1,000 employees. “We are the main supplier of such wire harnesses and have a market share of 40%,” stated Kenichi Urushibata. As to the factory that is to be built in Orhei, the director said this should be as good as the others of the network.

The investment project is implemented within the subzone Free Economic Zone “Balti”, which is situated in Orhei town, and envisions the construction of a factory of 27,000 square meters.
