The Chisinau Military Prosecutor’s Office ordered an investigation into the case of the National Army soldier who shot himself on October 27. An investigative group was formed of prosecutors of the Chisinau Military Prosecutor’s Office. They are considering several possible causes, including suicide and the ill-treatment of the victim, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Forensic tests and medical-legal examinations are being performed to establish the causes and conditions that led to the young man’s death.

The soldier was from Copceac, Ciadir-Lunga. He was 18 and was drafted into the army in Cahul on July 23. On August 28, the victim was sent to continue his military service in the National Army’s Guard Battalion in Chisinau.

At about 11.30 on October 27, the soldier was found lying unconscious with a gunshot wound in the head at post No. 2 of the Guard Battalion. He died on the way to the Central Military Clinical Hospital. While doing guard duty, the soldier had an AKM pistol and two cartridges on him.

This is the third alleged case of suicide this year. The first happened in June, when a National Army soldier was found strangled near the Bulboaca training ground. In July, a soldier aged 19 shot himself.
