Sudzucker Moldova, a company that owns 4 sugar plants in Moldova, assures that its stocks are enough to ensure the sugar consumption in the country till the new harvest. The statement was made on June 17 by the company's management at a meeting with premier Zinaida Greceanai in Drochia, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the Government's press unit. Alexandru Koss, the chairman of the executive board of the company, confirmed that the late price rises were speculative, as the Drochia-based stores hold over 15,000 tonnes of sugar, selling at the company's door at 9.10 lei/kg. The manager says they plan to invest more in equipment in order to enhance the technology percentage of sugar production. Up to now, the company modernized 80 per cent of the outfit of the plant in Drochia. Sudzucker Moldova accounts for 70 per cent of the sugar market share in the country. Earlier in June, 1 kg of sugar cost 14-15 lei in Chisinau main market, compared to 10-11 lei a week before. The Economy and Trade Ministry qualified as unwarranted the price rise, then.
