Sudden rise in temperatures forces farmers to hasten sowing

Owing to the sudden increase in temperatures the farmers must hasten the sowing of grain. Farmers say spring becomes a shorter season as the weather grows warmer suddenly and the moisture in soil evaporates quicker.

Farmer Anatol Placinta, a member of the National Council of the Fruit Producers Association, has told IPN that the land must be at least 7 cm wet inside for the seeds to sprout.

Petru Stratan, executive director of “Moldova Fruct” Association, said the bees do not manage to pollinate the flowers following the student rise in temperatures. “The flower is fertile, but if the blooming process is quick, the bees do not succeed in pollinating all the flowers. A sufficient number of beehives and wind are needed,” said Petru Stratan, adding that without proper pollination, the harvest will be smaller.

Another disadvantage of the sudden rise in temperatures is that the farmers do not manage to sprinkle the trees with protection substances and to fertilize soil as the period when these works should be carried out is very short.

Temperatures until the middle of April varied between 10-15 degrees Celsius, while at the end of April they rose from 20 to 29 degrees Celsius.
