The students who will fail one or several Baccalaureate exams will be able to take the failed tests during several times a year, until they pass them. They will pay a tax for the rerun exams. This will be set by the Ministry of Education annually, depending on the costs incurred to organize the Baccalaureate exams. This is provided in a bill to amend the Education Code proposed by members of the European People’s Parliamentary Group, IPN reports.

The informative note to the bill says that according to the National Agency for Curriculum and Assessment, of the total 18,000 candidates who took the Baccalaureate exams in 2017, 11,000 passed these and the exam pass rate was 60.34%. Even if the tendency during the last few years has been positive, a large number of students fail yet the exams.

The candidates who got grades lower than “5” in one or several Baccalaureate exams in the basic session have the right to take again the exams. Those who fail in the rerun session as well will be able to take the exams again during the next two years (basic and rerun session). If they fail again, all the positive grades obtained in other exams will be annulled and the students will have to sit the exams again, even in the subjects in which the grades were positive, in an external regime.

The MPs consider the waiting period of a year is not justified. According to them, the possibility of taking the Baccalaureate exam should be offered in the course of the year too, not only in summer.
