Starting with September 1, 2013, the students will receive a bonus of 20% of the awards offered depending on their performance. Deputy Minister of Education Loretta Handrabura has told Info-Prim Neo that the students of such faculties as agriculture, medicine and teacher training will get a bonus of 20% of the award during the first years of studies and another bonus of 20% during the last year. Cumulatively, they will benefit from a bonus of 40% to the award during the third or fourth year. In the other professional areas, the students will receive a bonus of 20% of the award only during the last year of studies. “This bonus was approved by a Government Decision of 2006, to which we returned because the economic indicators improved and we can now take measures to support the students of today who are the specialists of tomorrow,” stated Loretta Handrabura. She also said that from next year, the students will have to compete not only for awards, but also for keeping their place that is financed by the state. The budget-funded students risk losing their places if they do not have a high average grade at the end of the academic year. The vacated budget-funded places will be occupied by students who study on a contract basis if they achieve good results. A contest will be held after every summer session. This way, the Ministry aims to stimulate and motivate the students with good academic performance.
