About half of the children in the national education system are not placed in school desks correctly. According to specialists of the National Public Health Agency, the non-correspondence of the height of the desk with the children’s waist is one of the factors that leads to the appearance of diseases of the osteoarticular system and muscular system and of connective tissue disorders among students, IPN reports.

Statistics show that even if the students were absent from classrooms in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the incidence of osteoarticular diseases, muscle and connective tissue disorders among children of primary, secondary and lyceum education institutions was of 16.8 cases per 1,000 children. These diseases are placed fourth in the general morbidity rankings.

The National Public Health Agency notes that the non-correspondence of the sanitary norms of the regime of study, such as the number of classes and the program of study, is another factor that influences the state of health of students. This leads to the appearance of eye and related diseases among students. In 2020, the rate of such diseases was of 44.1 cases per 1,000 children. These diseases rank third by frequency.

In this connection, the Agency worked out sanitary norms for equipping the classrooms with furniture that matches the waist of students and requirements concerning the timetable. Specialists urge the companies that make school furniture to strictly obey the legal provisions so as to diminish morbidity through osteoarticular diseases and muscle disorders.
