In educational institutions where the academic year will start on Sunday, September 1, students will have an additional day of vacation, while teachers will have double remuneration and an extra day off for the availability to go to work on Sunday and spend the ceremony together with the students. This was announced by Minister of Education Dan Perciun in a Facebook livestream.
Earlier, the Ministry of Education issued a directive saying schools are free to decide, together with the school community, whether to start the year on September 1, as is the custom, or wait until Monday.
Meanwhile, the Moldovan Orthodox Church reacted by saying that Monday would be more suitable, considering that Moldovans are “mostly Orthodox” and suggesting that Sundays should be reserved for communal worship.
