The students of private and public schools returned to classrooms on September 1. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, the education institutions didn’t organize school year start festivities and the program of study takes place depending on the learning model chosen by the founder. Activity in classrooms will start after ensuring the physical distance of at least 1.5 meters and making sure the anti-epidemiological measures are obeyed. The first class the new school year centers on responsible behavior in schools and in the community. In universities, the education process during the first two weeks will take place online.

Minister of Education, Culture and Research Igor Sharov wished all the students a good and fruitful year, with special results and accomplishments, noting the students have again the possibility of rediscovering the joy of becoming connected to the experience of discovering all the aspects of the world, while the teachers now have to ensure that the school is a favorable environment for the exchange of ideas, for friendships and mentoring.

President Igor Dodon congratulated the teachers, parents and students on the start of the 2020-2021 school year. He noted the pandemic affected the normal pace of things and will make the people change their ordinary habits and accept the alternative, but temporary version of the education process this year. “Distance learning, the new work instruments involving technologies are only a variant in the complex teaching-learning process that does not exclude assiduity, diligence, curiosity and the big wish to learn. However, no advanced technology can replace the teachers who now joined the frontline employees,” he said.

Prime Minister Ion Chicu wished the students a school year full of achievements and great discoveries. He said that conditions should be created to make sure that knowledge is accumulated in a safe environment, even if mankind faces new challenges. He encouraged the students to be grateful to their teachers, to be open as they will have to pass on the accumulated knowledge and experience at a certain moment.

Speaker of Parliament Zinaida Grechanyi noted the most unwanted summer vacation is over and the most unordinary school year is under way. The authorities, the managers of secondary schools, lyceums and kindergartens made enormous efforts to adjust the education process to the current public health requirements. Even if they seem very strict, the rules were designed so as to ensure the safety of children and teachers and to make sure that classes maximally comply with the classical education standards. The authorities will be near the teachers, will share their problems and responsibilities and will motivate them according to merits and the made efforts.

The education institutions were closed on March 11 in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. The education process was then conducted online.
