Students of the Theoretical Lyceum “Universul” were informed about the health of kidneys and the activity of nephrologists at a conference staged at the “BB-Dializă” Center in Chisinau. Specialists told the students who want to become health professionals about kidney diseases and the treatment received by patients. The conference included a visit to dialysis wards. The Center’s administration plans to organize similar conferences with the participation of students each month, IPN reports.

“”BB-Dializă” medical director Petru Cepoida informed the students about the function of kidneys and the most often kidney diseases, risk factors and prevention methods. He noted it is very important for each person to know since an early age that it is enough to obey several simple rules to have healthy kidneys for a longer period of time. Doctors recommend limiting salt consumption, giving up smoking and normalizing the body weight. The drinking of liquids, even if it is recommended for eliminating toxins, does not do good to kidneys if it is excessive.

Diana Știrbu, psychologist of the Center “BB Dializă”, told the eleventh graders how important the family’s psycho-emotional support is for the persons diagnosed with kidney diseases. “The support of the family is an important source of psychological stability and a source of support in the recovery process. The family helps the sick person to reduce the level of stress and encourages this to follow the recommendations of the doctor,” stated the psychologist.

Attending the event, biology teacher of “Universul” Alina Țânțari said health is the most precious thing of which everyone should take care, including by respecting the personal hygiene rules and practicing sport.

Galina Gropa, master of the eleventh grade of the same lyceum, said the students like such training seminars as these help them in the professional development process. This is true mainly about those who want to become doctors and express interest in healthcare. Besides the theory they study at school, the students need to make field trips and come into contact with specialists.

Eleventh grader Simona Simionel noted such events are a good occasion for enriching their knowledge. They obtain information that is useful in the daily life. Student Petru Crețu inquired about the treatment of kidney diseases. According to him, such lessons are very useful and represent a supplement to what they study at school. Mădălina Arsenin said the information about health, anatomy in which she is interested was very useful.

According to official statistics, each tenth person in Moldova suffers from a kidney disease. If the disease becomes chronic and reaches the terminal stage, the kidneys fail to work and the person needs dialysis to survive. In Moldova there are about 600 patients on dialysis, 470 of whom are beneficiaries of the Centers “BB-Dializă” of Chisinau and Bălți.
