The students of the Lăpușna Theoretical High School, especially those with special educational needs, can improve their motor skills and relax in a sensory room that was inaugurated inside the educational institution within a project implemented by CCF Moldova, in partnership with the German foundation ChildFund, IPN reports.

Nina Malic, parent and support teacher, said that the project started with the renovation and equipping of a hall. The purpose of the hall is to ensure relaxation, reduce stress and stimulate children sensorially. Through the agency of this integrated service, children’s cognitive processes, attention, memory, imagination and fine motor skills will be developed, which is important in the development of other skills for school. The project also provides training for teachers in carrying out the sensory integration process in this room.

One session lasts for 20-25 minutes. Both individual and group activities can be organized.

The Lăpușna Theoretical High School is attended by 450 children, including 30 children with educational needs. Some of these need only speech therapy, while others benefit from more support services. There are 15 severely affected children.

The project “We participate now! Improving opportunities for participation of children and young people with disabilities in the education system of the Republic of Moldova” is implemented between March 2023 and July 2025 by CCF Moldova, in partnership with ChildFund Germany. The Embassy of Germany in Chisinau said the inclusion of people with special needs, especially children with special needs, is an important objective of German cooperation. In 2023, eight such spaces were equipped and ten more are to be equipped in 2024 across the country.
