Students and teachers are invited to take part in the first national contest “Unity through diversity”. The organizers – representatives of the public associations “Lumina cunoasterii” (“Light of knowledge”) and AGIroMD – provided details about the contest in a news conference at IPN.

“Unity through diversity” is a national competition in the field of civic education, specifically in the history and culture of European civilizations,” stated Mariana Marin, head of the General Association of Romanian Teachers’ branch in Moldova AGIroMD.

The organizers aim to attract third graders to students of the upper grades within age categories. The contest includes two tests. Test A consists of 20 questions and at least 5 points should be scored in this to reach stage B, which is a creation test. To be admitted, the applicants must fill out the form available on the contest’s blog luminacunoasterii2017.blogspot.com until March 15. Test A will be taken during March 15-25, while Test B will end on April 9.

Teacher Pavel Cerbusca told the news conference that society is divided and by this contest the organizers aim to unite the people. “We need the people to actively become involved in consolidating society,” he stated, adding that the contest is a possibility for the students to distinguish themselves by writing essays or by other creations, laying emphasis on the values that unite them.

The goal of the contest is to diversify the methods by which the children learn, said Vladimir Bolea, chairman of “Lumina cunoasterii”. He noted the children should be stimulated to learn something new, outside the school program.

The best works will be awarded. The top prize is a trip to Brussels. The first prize is a laptop, the second a tablet computer, while the third a smartphone.

Student Iuliana Varlan, a member of the organizational team, called on the students to take part in the contest so as to show their knowledge of culture and history of Europe. The competitors will definitely have a nice experience.

The works of the young people will be evaluated by a jury. Each work can score at most 50 points. The contestants will be assessed depending on the age category.
