The students of the higher education, technical and vocational institutions will have the chance to live in hostels with modern sanitary utilities, with bathrooms and computers with access to internet, and restrooms until January 1, 2007. Such stipulations are included in a frame regulation on the functioning of the hostels under the state education institutions approved by the Cabinet this week. The normative act settles the following aspects as regards the functioning of the hostels: minimum norms on hostels’ equipping, the methodology of accommodation in hostels, hostels’ administration, the rights and the obligations of the dwellers. An important aspect of the regulation is that it settles the way the students will participate in the administration of the hostels in light of the fact that the regulation determines the activity principles of the Council of dwellers. According to the deputy minister of Education and Youth, Valentin Crudu, the old standards on the functioning of the hostels which were approved in 1985 do not comply with present requirements concerning the modernisation of the education system. The education institutions required and contributed to including conditions in the regulation that would secure the improvement of the accommodation standards in the hostels, the deputy minister stated. Valentin Crudu mentioned that on the basis of this regulation the education institutions will draw up own regulations, depending on the number of persons living in the hostels as well as on the condition of the buildings. Supplementary resources for the improvement of the standards in hostels are not included in the budget, so that the expenses will be supported by each institution separately.
