The Orthodox Christians entered Holy Week, which is the last week of Lent that this year is celebrated on May 5. According to priest Octavian Mosin, bishop of “Meeting God” Church of the Moldova State University, said that from today, April 29, and until Easter, the people should fast strictly, IPN.

“Holy Week is the saddest week of the church year. It is the week that reminds us daily about the road covered by mankind. The sins made by the people by crucifying God are forgiven during this week,” said the priest.

According to the bible, during the last seven days of Lent Jesus Christ was sold by Judas, suffered unbearable pain and died for the people’s sins. “Only those who fast until the end are able to really feel the joy of Easter,” said Octavian Mosin, adding that the Christians must prepare for the return to life of Jesus Christ by prayer and fasting.

Dairy products and meat products are strictly forbidden during Holy Week. On most days, no alcoholic beverages are permitted and no oil is used in the cooking. Friday and Saturday are observed as strict fast days, meaning that nothing should be eaten on those days.
