The acting chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Valeriu Strelet, in the meeting with the European Parliament Rapporteur for Moldova Petras Auštrevičius, said the country is facing an unprecedented situation – the power is discredited, while the state institutions are controlled by one party that tends to gain full control. “The current power is not representative and does not have legitimacy,” he stated, being quoted by IPN.

Valeriu Strelet told the European official that the lack of concrete steps in the reformation of justice, consolidation of the banking system, rooting out of corruption and freeing of the state institutions from captivity led to the worsening of the political and economic crisis in Moldova and to the loss of confidence in the politicians’ capacity to deal with the country’s problems. The current state of affairs can be overcome only by sincere and swift approaches, not by pretending to do reforms as this can cause a bigger social revolt.

The Liberal-Democratic heavyweight noted that the PLDM, being now an opposition party, will strictly monitor the government’s actions and will exert pressure so that this urgently implements the reforms that result from the Association Agreement, especially in justice and corruption fighting. Without the support of the European partners, Moldova cannot remain on the floating line, but this support should be provided depending on the reform implementation level, not on the made promises to do reforms.
