Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said he will suggest giving the name of the late artist Ion Ungureanu, ex-minister of culture, to a street or an institution in Chisinau. The master will be buried in Chisinau on January 31, IPN reports.

The January 30 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions started with the observance of a minute’s silence in memory of the artist. “Owing to Mister Ungureanu and to Mayor Nicolae Costin ... and to the People’s Front of that period too, the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great and Holy returned to its initial place. He had this project to bring back the monument in his care, as he actually had everything that is related to the renaissance of the national culture in the 1990s and now. I think his artistic talent and inimitable voice will always remain in our hearts and memory,” stated Dorin Chirtoaca.

In December, Ion Ungureanu submitted an application to be allotted a place for a grave, but the mayor said he kept it unsigned. When he visited the artist at the hospital in Bucharest, where he was admitted, they agreed that he will struggle further and will not give up. According to Dorin Chirtoaca, the death of the artist is a huge loss.
