The works to paint markings on the streets of Chisinau began on June 6. The local authorities admit that these started with delay compared with the previous years, when the marking works were launched in May or even April. Particular legal provisions that hamper the holding of tender contests to purchase the materials needed for marking are invoked.
Contacted by IPN, head of the road maintenance company “Exdrupo” Stefan Racu said the process of holding tender contests during the last few years has lasted long owing to the legal provisions. Therefore, they asked for the procedure to be simplified so that the municipal authorities could meet the deadlines. The procurement contract was signed a week ago and the necessary materials were ordered. The marking works are usually performed in May or even April, if the weather permitted.
Stefan Racu noted that marking works on June 6 were carried out on Muncesti Sr. Priority is given to peripheral and unlit streets. The markings are also renewed on the road segments with heavy traffic. The pedestrian streets are marked based on prescriptions issued by the Transport Division and the National Patrolling Inspectorate. To mark all the streets in Chisinau, “Exdrupo” needs several months. Works are now also executed at night and on the weekend, when the traffic is not so heavy.
The company’s head called on the drivers to be prudent and to obey the temporary road signs placed on the sections were marking works are performed.
