As many as 70 boys and 31 girls last year benefitted from support and temporary accommodation at the Complex of Social Services for Street Children attached to the General Children's Rights Protection Division of Chisinau municipality.

75% of the hosted children come from different localities of the Republic of Moldova, and only 25% are from Chisinau.

"The service works with the authorities of the localities where the children come from or with the legal representatives," the Division’s deputy head Ana Bezobrazova told IPN, adding that representatives of the country's police inspectorates are also reliable partners.

"The first step in the service's work is to identify children by carrying out daily raids. The inspectors also conduct planned or night raids, usually in the places mentioned by citizens," said the representative of the Division.

The social services complex provides children with temporary accommodation in a protected environment, specialized support for recovery and reintegration, and carries out educational and recreational activities.

While in the custody of the authorities, the children are offered accommodation, food, laundry services. Discussions are held with the psychologist to clarify the difficult situation in which the children are so as to help them overcome it.

The complex was launched by the Chisinau City Hall in 2019.
