A team of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has drafted the strategy for implementing the common national system for receiving emergency calls on 112. The draft strategy was proposed for debates to the interministerial working group. After it is finalized and supplemented with suggestions formulated by institutions working in the emergency services sector, the document will be submitted to the Government for approval, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the ICT Ministry, the implementation of the emergency number 112 will enable the people to swiftly call the firefighting service, the emergency medical care service, the emergency gas service, and others.

The strategy suggests creating three regional emergency call centers – in Chisinau, Balti and Cahul. The 112 service will receive the calls, will analyze the provided information, will localize the caller and will immediately redirect the obtained data to the competent service. Currently, localizing the place of the accident takes 90% of the time of the call.

For the first time, the single emergency call number 112 was used in Sweden in 1991. Now it is used in all the EU member states.
